JACK WELBOURNE
CARDIFF
Jack found clay at Plymouth College of Art while studying Art & Design. He later went onto study Ceramics at Cardiff Metropolitan University, graduating in 2014 with a 1st class degree.
After graduating, Jack became an apprentice for a number of potters, he also went to study in Sweden for 6 months, where he began teaching. Jack took the skills he learned back to Cardiff, where he has set up his own studio where he continues to make his work alongside teaching.
Jack creates reduction-fired tableware. He throws his pots from Cornish clay and collects materials such as wood, ash, wild clays and ochres to use in slipts or ingredients in his glazes. His pots are fired in a 12cft gas kiln over 10-12 hours with a 4-5 hour reduction.
