Richard
Wilson
RICHARD
WILSON has been making pots since the early 1970s. After attending
Great Yarmouth College of Art, he worked for six years at Le Dieu
Pottery in Norwich, before travelling to Australia, New Zealand
and later Germany, where he worked with many potters using different
techniques.
The strongest influences on his work have been the Cardew tradition
of English country pottery and experiences gained during four years
in Germany. Here he learned the skill of woodfiring stoneware and
was inspired by the richness of design in traditional European slipware.
Richard
set up his own workshop in Abbotsbury Dorset, in 1990, and now produces
a wide range of domestic pottery in both earthenware (fired to 1100oC)
and high-fired stoneware, all of which is ovenproof and dishwasher
safe. He decorates his pots in bright colours, using traditional
slipware methods.
He
also produces special one-off exhibition pieces, some of them Raku-
or pit-fired, and accepts special commissions from individual customers.
