Graham Newing
GRAHAM
NEWING trained at Wimbledon School of Art from 1957 to 1961 and
then at Denby Pottery for a further year, Graham worked as manager
of Guernsey Pottery. In 1967 he became a member of Lord Weymouth’s
art group at Longleat House. In 1969 he started his own studio in
Westbury where he still works. Over the years he has had many exhibitions
both in Britain and in Europe.
Graham makes a range of finely thrown and decorated high-fired stoneware.
The influences of classical form and decorative styles such as Art
Nouveau and African style are apparent. He uses both vibrantly coloured
glazes and subtle hues. The textural variations in the surface are
also pleasing.
