Brown
David Brown, NDD, ATD, is
a potter with many years experience making, teaching and exhibiting
ceramics. He now specialises in making one-off pieces, which conform
to prototypic ceramic vessels: teapot, vase, bowl, jug, etc. Recently
David has concentrated on the simple, but bold, sculptural forms
of vases and bowls which are all wheel-thrown, turned and sometimes
altered. He explores the subtle variations in colour and texture
in glazes, achieving the effects of time and ageing (decay, fragmentation
and patina) on the surfaces of his vessels.
David uses a smooth, off-white
stoneware clay which is fired to about 1,250oC in an oxidising atmosphere.
